I have worked at the PO for just over a year. I work 6 days a week. A layoff is what I get for busting my butt??? What will it cost the govt in unemployment. I do not know how the daily work will be completed by the older employees-there’s 2 in our office that need help to complete their routes. One of them it takes 5 minutes to walk across the room. Hoe Dee Doe. Guess it’s time for me to plan a vacation. Thank God my spouse has a good paynig job with benefits. Unions are not the problem. Fair pay for a work day.

yearling-that senior worker you took a dig at has worked longer and deserves that job-you think that senior worked his/her butt off for nothing-it’s the fair way to do this-the post office is the only place you can work your butt off and get a pay cut at the end of the year, it’s referred to as mail count. have some respect for the older works, they have paid their dues. I hate seeing you lose your job too, but if they start with senior workers, the post office is then in real trouble thru the courts as it should be.I have never known the post office to hire someone full time right on the spot-my husband worked 12 years part time without benefits before he went full time-it should be no different for anyone else.

I have 5 years 9 months, in the post office as a ptf city carrier, plus 8 years in the military. And i might be given a pink slip, in my office there are 2 city carriers with over 40 years, give them a years pay and get them the hell out of the way.

Save your Money and buy as much non-perishables as possible, we’re headed for DEFLATION. If you don’t know what that is; type RUSSIA and DEFLATION in your search engine. As for your precious Postal carreers, you can blame nobody but yourselves and your ever compromising UNION of which you are probrably no true member of, just a “DUE” boy or girl. Thanks to this exciting rapidly changing technology “E-Mail”, we have become expendable in every craft of the USPS. Even the upper mangement can’t seem to function without it, but this betrayal isn’t confinded to just the Postal Service. We demonstrate our unfaithful nature daily when we shop religiously at the so called bargain stores instead of the retail stores which have kept this economy alive and thriving. And to think, some are blaming this failing economy on SUBprime lending; NO, blame Wal-Mart, SAMS, Cosco, BJ’s,Target, all of which are nothing more than Single vendor Flea-Markets who do nothing for the economy but drain it of its viable financial stability. Don’t believe me, just continue to observe the price of “everything” around you steadily drop and “Still” not be able to aford those things due to the scarce availability of MONEY. Well, that’s all I’m willing to vent about for now; Hell, I’m tired of trying to educate you wastful souls. God Bless and help you all.

If all the big companies stopped outsourcing and gave those jobs to American workers we wouldn’t be in the fix we are in. Not only do we not understand the person on the other end of the phone in India and the Phillipines etc, but mistakes are made due to communication errors. Stop the outsourcing and give us back our jobs. Greed is what is driving this.

  6. john says:

Wow, I don’t believe this people. We’re pretty down right deserving of this situation because for years the lying, greed, violence, and immorality has caught up to us finally.

  7. Postmaster says:

The Post office is not laying off workers. We are reducing our workforce through natural means such as retirements and resignations. The reduction in mail thus far is only about 30% and we are keeping up with that reduction by reducing work hours and increasing savings in other areas. We continue to implement technology in every way possible to save in the area of human resources. Many people don’t realize that the mail continues to come in no matter how much e-mail you send or how many things you order off of Ebay.. All of it has to be delivered somehow.. And, the U.S. Postal Service is still more economical that Fedex or UPS by far..

RebelTraders note 1/22/09: This poster claims to be the post master general. But the internet address associated with this post is not even in the United States, so I feel that the person that left this comment is bogus.

  8. matter of time says:

Listen people, USPS will be around for awhile longer but will be phased out, think about it, “Going Green” is not sending mail around anymore its coming up with a device, its out there, that gives you all your mail in one. If we have to go green and save our planet then the post office is got to also, what does that mean less vehicles less miles driven less employees and most of all “Go Online” hell even the PO is doing it CLICK AND SHIP, (who pays for all those supplies and sending them out to you, its free?). I worked for the PO for 3 yrs and every year I saw the mail volume go down, if it was not a GOVT. agency, with that a 6 BIL deficit…you can come up with your own ending.

  9. leanetta randel says:

everything must change, and the post office as we have known it is changing also. Instead of waiting for the inevitable to happen, start preparing yourselves in the new generation of technology, maybe the p.o will have some job openings in those areas.
