Unemployment Rate Reaches 8.5 Percent

Unemployment data for the month of March reaches another record level, now 8.5%. A level not seen since 1983.

The more accurate measure of unemployment, known as the U-6 data, revels that the unemployment rate is 15.6%

(U-6:Total unemployed, plus all marginally attached workers, plus total employed part time for economic reasons, as a percent of the civilian labor force plus all marginally attached workers)

MARCH CHANGE IN NONFARM PAYROLL: -663,000

CHANGE IN MANUFACTURING PAYROLLS: -161,000

- January nonfarm payrolls are revised from -655K to -741K (now lowest reading since Oct 1949 when reached -834K)
- Prior Manufacturing payrolls revised from -168K to -169K
