As the ‘video of the day’ on the right hand side of my site details the circumstances, it is Karl Denninger who puts it into words very well.
[...] And this has nothing to do with the fact that I believe they’re hiding losses, that they’re under investigation 7 ways from Sunday regarding the Merrill merger, or that BofA likes to bang you in the backside with usurious “overdraft fees”, even though any of those standing alone is more than enough reason to run this bank into the ground.
Nope.
It is about this:
A South Carolina Bank of America branch is drawing criticism Thursday after an employee reportedly ordered the removal of American flags placed to honor a fallen Marine over fears that people would be offended.
The Palmetto Scoop received one eyewitness email claiming that the branch manager at Bank of America’s Gaffney branch at 1602 West Floyd Baker Blvd. “told a citizen who was preparing the route for a U.S. Marine killed in action in Afghanistan by placing small American flags along the roadway that the flags might upset some of her customers.â€
Said the outraged tipster, “[The branch manager] took them down and made the citizen go in to get them if she didn’t want them thrown away.â€
The flags were part of the funeral procession of Lance Corporal Christopher Fowlkes, 20, who died last week after an explosion in Afghanistan’s Helmand province.
Bank of America said:
“We want to ensure the community knows how deeply proud we are of the men and women who have sacrificed so much in service to our country,†the statement said. “The bank does fly the American Flag at our locations throughout the country and flags were displayed in front of our banking center in Gaffney the evening prior to our dedicated Marine returning home.â€
A miscommunication in policy? And flags were permitted to fly in front of the location the evening prior – when the bank was closed and no customers would see them – but not when it was open?

Chuck, this has little to do with economy. More a question of ideology, and as for me, seeing a French flag fly or not is totally indifferent. I’d rather not see one fly.
A bank does not have to be “patriotic” to do its job. Actually, I would rather boycott a bank if it were “patriotic”
That would just be the type of bank to give the Feds all the info on my accounts without warrant…
I think the more appropriate action would be to close any accounts at Bank of America. Clearly, it isn’t America’s Bank. Any organization that has received tax payer assistance shouldn’t have the audacity to show such disrespect for military service members who have given their all for their country.
Americans clearly have a different ideology.
Caldera, you might more safely say that we are not bound by old ideologies such as “patriotism” or “nationalism” (beyond some extremists). These two have been and will be probably the most dangerous ferments of wars throughout the world.
“Patriotism” for one, does not favor having a critical eye on your country’s shortcomings.
I was denied on a loan modification twice. They told me to get another job and call them back, I got a second job, called them back, then they wanted to know my race before they’d give me my answer, said the question was “merely statistical” but would not give me my answer until I told her my color, then denied me and decided they wanted something else that they knew I didn’t have. This is wrong, illegal and unfair, I work my fanny off, my only debt is my house, we didn’t overextend ourselves. I know they get a bigger break if they foreclose and get NO break if they Make My Home Affordable like the government is paying them to do, yet, they’ve only granted a handful of modifications in the United States. If you have an account with them , use your voice, pull your money out and move it. Look for the video of the priest from California that is pulling his whole dioceses money out because they aren’t helping Californians. ITs happening in Florida to and im sure everywhere else. Ive gone to my Congressman, to the news and and letting all of you know too. Spread the word, this is wrong. I work too hard, someone has to fix this.
